Siguiendo en el hemisferio Sur, visitamos Colombia. Allí se celebra un día curioso, “el Día de las Velitas” este día marca el inicio de las navidades. Los balcones, jardines y ventanas de las casas se iluminan con velas y farolillos. Esta bonita tradición se celebra en honor a la Virgen María y a la Inmaculada. Desde hace unos años se ha vuelto tan popular que no queda balcón o ventana en toda Colombia, decorada con preciosos farolillos elaboradísimos. Una de las ciudades más representativas de esta tradición es Quimbaya, donde incluso se hacen competiciones de farolillos.
Continuing in the southern hemisphere, we visit Colombia. There a curious day is celebrated, «the Day of the Candles» this day marks the beginning of Christmas. The balconies, gardens and windows of the houses are lit with candles and lanterns. This beautiful tradition is celebrated in honor of the Virgin Mary and the Immaculate. In recent years it has become so popular that there is no balcony or window in all of Colombia, decorated with beautiful, elaborate lanterns. One of the most representative cities of this tradition is Quimbaya, where lantern competitions are even held.
